HAAPA stands for aspen whose scientific name (Populus tremula) means trembling poplar. The swish of aspen leaves is a familiar sound for most Finns. There is a Finnish saying that someone is "trembling like an aspen leaf", when someone is cold or terrified. Even in low winds, aspen shivering is caused by its long, delicate and flat petiole. The round leaves are deep green and make a beautiful, bright color for HAAPA pattern. You can almost hear the soothing swish when you put your head on HAAPA cushions.
